Pickling and Neutralizing It looks much cleaner! The pickle dissolved most of the oxides. However, in case there are any cracks left, all the pickle on the surface and in any cracks must be immediately neutralized in the solution of baking soda:  The presence of fizzing indicates that pickle (which is acid) is being neutralized. Hold the billet in the baking soda until all fizzing stops.
