Almost a Ring - Axial Alignment![]() However, careful inspection showed that the two ends were not quite aligned axially yet: ![]() Therefore I put the rings in the vice with the ends facing up, and hammered lightly with a neoprene (plastic) hammer until the ends were aligned. Then I carefully tapped the joint together so that the groove between the two ends was very small. ![]() This is so that the narrow groove would bring in solder by capillary action, which works better as the groove gets narrower. At this point, I annealed the rings (since they had been worked a lot), wire brushed the groove, pickled it, neutralized the pickle and applied flux to the groove. I then soldered the groove shut with medium solder just like I had done before.
