Almost a Ring - Axial Alignment

With the restraightening, extending and recurving done, my ring blanks were almost rings:

However, careful inspection showed that the two ends were not quite aligned axially yet:

Therefore I put the rings in the vice with the ends facing up, and hammered lightly with a neoprene (plastic) hammer until the ends were aligned. Then I carefully tapped the joint together so that the groove between the two ends was very small.

This is so that the narrow groove would bring in solder by capillary action, which works better as the groove gets narrower.

At this point, I annealed the rings (since they had been worked a lot), wire brushed the groove, pickled it, neutralized the pickle and applied flux to the groove. I then soldered the groove shut with medium solder just like I had done before.
