Gadolinium

Gadolinium Sphere
Source:  Ancient Magnetism Lab Cleanout
Purity:  99.99%

This sphere, I'm told, was attached to a wooden dowel and inserted into a Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM) in order to decude Gadolinium's magnetic properties.  For the first time.  It was found in a small cleanout of the lab owned by the inventor of the VSM.  A tiny sample on a non-magnetic stick like this is very typical of a VSM sample.

Gadolinium Ingot, Mounted in Epoxy
Source:  Found, Lab Cleanout
Purity:  99.99%

I imagine this Gadolinium was mounted and polished as such to see its grain structure.  This type of sample is very typical of metallography studies.

Gadolinium "Dog-Bone" Ingot

Purity:  99.99%

This appears to be a section of the same ingot mounted in epoxy above.
Gadolinium Sheet
Source:  Found, Spectroscopy Lab Cleanout
Purity:  99.9%

This sheet was found sealed and will stay that way as an example of unoxidized Gadolinium.  The box reads "Warning:  May Damage Blood Clotting System."  Spiffy.
