Rubidium in Ampoule Source: Bought, eBay Purity: 99.5% This Rubidium was sealed in an ampoule and presumably exposed to a higher temperature than room temperature, since the metal appears to have melted on the bottom of the ampoule. Rubidium has a melting point of 39C, so a person with a fever could melt it under their tongue. Not that that's recommended though - Rubidium is the second most reactive naturally-occurring metal, catching fire in air and exploding violently on contact with water or steam, due to rapid combustion of the hydrogen generated. Oxide has clearly formed even inside the ampoule. |
